A true overnight celebrity, no matter how you spin it.
There’s something undeniably satisfying about waking up to a breakfast that’s already made, especially when it’s as delicious as this blueberry overnight oats with a touch of mush-melo magic. Whether you’re rushing out the door easing into a slow morning, or planning ahead for the week - this recipe delivers convenience without sacrificing comfort or flavor.Designed with versatility in mind, these oats can be enjoyed straight from the fridge for a cool and light refreshing start, or gently reheated for a warm and hearty bowl to hunker down.
For those who like to switch things up you can even establish the base in meal prep fashion ahead of time and add different fruits, nuts, and seeds after the fact to keep their bright and crisp pop intact. If you’re a real fit-freak try adding in a little extra milk and your go-to protein powder! It’s a simple, flexible routine that turns everyday mornings into something to look forward to.
What oats should I use for the occasion?
Since this recipe is so nicely open ended, you’ve got a few different oat options for each situation. If you’re looking for a piping hot and hearty breakfast base, old-fashioned rolled oats are the call to strike a perfect balance between texture and cook time. On the other hand, if you’re wanting to seal and refrigerate for later, steel-cut oats offer a heartier bite that will keep longer (best for meal prep). If you’d just like to have a quick snack in the morning with a standard overnight oat, the quick oats option will create a softer, creamier consistency perfect for a "goldilocks" style middleground.
Ingredients
Overnight Oats Base
1 cup preferred oats
1 cup preferred milk
½ cup greek yogurt
¼ cup preferred nuts
2 Tbsp. chia seeds
1 Tbsp. honey
½ tsp. vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Topping (Add After)
1 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 c. chopped walnuts
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
Pinch of kosher salt
8 Tbsp. (1 stick) salted butter, melted
20 Mush-Melo marshmallows (Night Cap)
Ice cream or warm caramel sauce, for serving
Directions
- To start: In mason jars or a larger container, combine oats, nuts, and seeds, then mix together with milk, yogurt, honey, vanilla, and salt. Stir until fully incorporated and refrigerate overnight to allow oats to soften and flavors to meld.
- For the option: If enjoying this cold, feel free to add in fruits with step 1 - adding Mush-Melo mini marshmallows as a topping. However if reheating, add Mush-Melo mini marshmallows before warming the base gently on the stovetop or microwave and then top with fresh fruits as ready.
- To finish: Consider garnishing with cinnamon, or mixing in your favorite protein powder with a little extra milk.
